The WMG Foundation has recognised two elementary schools that stand out for their efforts to encourage girls to take part in sporting activities, marking European School Sport Day, which is celebrated as part of the European Week of Sport.

The awards went to Vuk Karadžić Elementary School in Doljevac and Žarko Zrenjanin Elementary School in Novi Sad, whose work demonstrates how a love of sport can be fostered from an early age and how to create an environment in which girls have equal opportunities to participate in sporting activities.
Representatives of the WMG Foundation visited the schools and presented them with vouchers in recognition of their contribution to the development of school sport and their commitment to increasing girls’ participation.
“Schools play an important role in introducing children to sport and encouraging them to be active from an early age. We particularly want to support communities where girls are encouraged to take part in sporting activities, develop their potential and build self-confidence. The examples set by these schools demonstrate how important it is to create equal opportunities for every child and, through sport, contribute to the development of healthy lifestyles and team spirit,” said Irena Petrović, Director of the WMG Foundation.
European School Sport Day is dedicated to promoting physical activity and sport among children and young people. In Serbia, as part of the activities of the Olympic Committee of Serbia, particular attention is paid to schools that have distinguished themselves by encouraging children to take part in sport, while this year the WMG Foundation placed a particular focus on schools contributing to greater participation by girls in sporting activities.
Examples such as these further highlight the importance of schools as places where children develop healthy lifestyles, self-confidence and team spirit, while shaping their relationship with sport from an early age.
