This year as well, the WMG Foundation supported the “Girls in the ICT Sector Day” initiative, whose aim is to encourage greater participation of girls and women in the world of information and communication technologies. During the central event at Europe House in Belgrade, through discussions, panels and project presentations, the importance of knowledge, creativity and self-confidence was highlighted as a key factor in involving girls in the digital world.

This year’s “Catch the Idea” competition brought together teams of schoolgirls who, through work on their own projects, developed digital solutions and presented them before an expert jury. In this process, the girls had the opportunity to demonstrate not only technical knowledge, but also creativity, teamwork and the ability to apply technology to concrete challenges.
The most successful teams were awarded for their solutions, and the WMG Foundation provided prizes for the runners-up, offering additional support for their further development and interest in information and communication technologies.
Support for this initiative was also continued through direct work with girls so that the interest they had gained in technology could also be given a concrete context. On that occasion, WMG (Wireless Media Group) hosted 20 pupils from The Kralj Petar I Primary School, giving them the opportunity to learn first-hand what working in a digital environment looks like.

During the visit, the girls tried out different roles, from presenting programmes in front of cameras to the basics of video editing, and they also had the opportunity to meet the teams who develop and maintain digital platforms. In conversation with employees, they gained a clearer picture of what everyday work in a modern digital company looks like and how many different kinds of knowledge and skills this sector encompasses. The experiences of women who are already building careers in the ICT sector were especially meaningful to them, as they brought real opportunities closer to them and gave them further encouragement to think about their future in that field.
