SpOna is a platform for connecting and creating a strong network of women and organisations that, through joint action, drive positive social change.
We believe that building a sustainable, cross-sectoral women’s network can contribute to improving the position of women, their professional development, and their social influence, with the goal of creating a fairer, more resilient, and more promising society in Serbia.
The project is based on five programme areas in fields where women are represented but still face challenges in achieving equal status and leadership: science, business, sport, creative industries, and diplomacy. Although women have left an indelible mark in these professions, they continue to encounter obstacles, from the undervaluing of professional achievements and limited access to resources, to a lack of mentorship and advancement opportunities. In addition, there are challenges common to all women: balancing career and family responsibilities, insufficient representation in decision-making positions, unequal access to financial resources, and social stereotypes that influence how women’s success is perceived. Through empowerment, education, mutual connection, and greater visibility, this initiative seeks to turn these challenges into opportunities for collective action and support.
Through its activities, SpOna promotes women’s economic independence, education, and leadership while also working to break down entrenched gender stereotypes and create a new culture of equality. Equipped with knowledge, solidarity, and mutual respect, the women gathered around this platform become key drivers of social change, not only in their professional fields but also in shaping the values of the community as a whole.
Our aim is for SpOna to become a link among women of different generations and experiences, as well as a bridge between sectors and institutions that recognise the importance of gender equality as a foundation for sustainable development. It brings together girls who are just beginning to dream of their place in the world and women who are already leaders in their fields, creating a space where their energies and ambitions intertwine for the benefit of all.
In short, SpOna is a women’s initiative dedicated to building a community that encourages active and equal participation of women in all areas of society, because society progresses when women are equal, visible, and connected.
