Plant a Tree

The Plant a Tree project was launched with the aim of contributing to the preservation of nature and the creation of a healthier and more sustainable living environment through planting, education and collective action. Over the years, the project has grown into the largest environmental initiative in Serbia, connecting institutions, expert organisations, companies, schools, local authorities, volunteers and citizens.

Since the project began, 1,250,000 saplings have been planted, over 500 locations greened across more than 40 towns and municipalities throughout Serbia, with the participation of more than 1,500 volunteers. Over 13 tonnes of seed have been collected, 50 children’s educational workshops organised, public spaces tidied up and new green oases created. The millionth sapling was planted in 2025, achieving one of the key goals set at the start of the project.

A special part of the project is dedicated to educating children and young people and developing awareness of the importance of nature conservation, a responsible attitude towards the environment and collective action.

The Plant a Tree project is implemented through a series of activities:

  • Planting and greening campaigns

Mass and local planting campaigns bring together citizens, volunteers, companies, institutions and expert organisations at locations across Serbia. Activities include planting new trees, landscaping public areas and transforming neglected spaces into green oases.

  • Education of children and young people

Through workshops, school plantings and practical activities, children and young people learn about the importance of trees, biodiversity and nature conservation. Programmes are implemented in schools, nurseries and other educational spaces throughout Serbia.

  • Seed collection and support for biodiversity

Seed collection represents an important segment of the project and contributes to the continuity of future planting cycles. The project also encompasses initiatives aimed at preserving biodiversity, including planting honey plants and setting up bee hotels.

  • Conferences and expert dialogue

Through conferences, forums and expert panels, the project connects representatives of institutions, companies and experts in the fields of ecology, forestry and sustainable development, with the aim of exchanging knowledge and developing new models of cooperation.

  • Exhibitions and presentation of project results

Photo exhibitions, video materials and documented campaigns showcase the development of the project, its results and the contribution of everyone involved in its implementation.
