The EUpravo Zato Initiative, together with the Embassy of Portugal, brought together diplomats, business representatives and civil society at a joint viewing of the Serbia–Portugal match in Belgrade.
The basketball players of Serbia and Portugal played their second-round match of the European Championship in Latvia last night in Riga, within Group A. On the occasion of this encounter, the WMG Foundation’s Eupravo Zato Initiative organised, in the informal atmosphere of the garden of its office building, a joint viewing of the game, attended by numerous guests.
Among the guests was His Excellency José Rui Veléz Caroço, Ambassador of Portugal to Serbia, who emphasized that Serbia had been the favourite, but that thanks to the dedication of the Portuguese players the match turned out to be far more uncertain than expected.
Before the broadcast began, the audience was welcomed by the Director of the WMG Foundation, Irena Petrović, while the teams were also cheered on by the Head of the Mission of the Republic of Serbia to the EU, Danijel Apostolović, who is currently in Belgrade, as well as representatives of the embassies of Finland, Slovakia and Germany. Guests from the business sector and the NGO community were also present.
“The Eupravo Zato Initiative was launched a little over a year ago with the aim of contributing to understanding, building trust and strengthening partnership between Serbia, the Western Balkans and the European Union,” said Milana Petrović, Editor-in-Chief of the EUpravo Zato website.
“One of the best ways to enhance that understanding is through sport. Sport is a special form of diplomacy, particularly at national team level, when through combativeness and fair play we convey messages of friendship and solidarity,” she added.
The WMG Foundation was established by the company WMG (Wireless Media Group) with the aim of supporting projects of economic, social and environmental sustainability in Serbia and the region, as well as promoting self-sustainability and European values through various initiatives and partnerships.
