Conference “EU standards for women’s health: A national priority in the fight against breast cancer”

The WMG Foundation is organizing a conference titled “EU Standards for Women’s Health: A National Priority in the Fight Against Breast Cancer,” which will take place on 19 March at 10:00 AM at the European House in Belgrade. The conference will be opened by Assistant Prof Dr Zlatibor Lončar, Minister of Health of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, a representative of the Delegation of the European Union in the Republic of Serbia, the Ambassador of Sweden to the Republic of Serbia and Montenegro, Charlotte Sammelin, and Dr Fabio Scano, Head of the World Health Organization Office in Serbia.

Through two interactive panels, the conference will explore opportunities for improving breast cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment by drawing on best practices from the EU, as well as the achievements Serbia has made in this field. Particular emphasis will be placed on the importance of screening programmes and modern treatment approaches in line with European standards, with the aim of improving treatment outcomes and enhancing the quality of life for patients. Additionally, conference participants will discuss innovative therapies, multidisciplinary treatment approaches, and the role of digitalization and artificial intelligence in early diagnosis.

This event, held in anticipation of the National Day of the Fight Against Breast Cancer, will bring together representatives of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, the diplomatic corps, international institutions, healthcare professionals, and representatives of associations to foster the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and best EU practices in the fight against breast cancer. By fostering synergy between national and international stakeholders, the conference aims to define concrete steps for improving the prevention and treatment system, ensuring that every woman in Serbia has access to timely and high-quality healthcare.

The conference is organized within the framework of the project “Prevention as a Guarantee,” which aims to raise public awareness of the importance of preventive healthcare and the improvement of public health. Given that breast cancer is one of the leading causes of mortality among women worldwide, including in Serbia, this project places special emphasis on breast cancer prevention through education and encouraging women to undergo regular screening examinations, as well as promoting healthy lifestyle habits as key factors in maintaining health.
